Unisnu Jepara Plants 350 Seedlings on the Ujungwatu Coastline

Jepara - The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at Nahdlatul Ulama Islamic University (Unisnu) Jepara, in collaboration with the Nature and Environment Lovers Forum (Wapalhi), held the 9th Sharia Festival x Wapalhi through a mangrove planting action at Tambak Kalingga, Ujungwatu Village, Donorojo Subdistrict, on Thursday (14/5/2026).

The activity, themed “Synergy of Joint Action: Caring for Coastal Heritage for a Sustainable Future,” served as a form of student concern for preserving the coastal environment and an effort to educate the public on the importance of protecting the mangrove ecosystem.

The event was attended by invited guests and representatives from the Jepara Police Resort (Polres Jepara), Kodim 0719/Jepara, Bhayangkari, the Ujungwatu Village Government, students from several Ujungwatu schools, the academic community of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at Unisnu Jepara, Wapalhi members, and various parties supporting environmental conservation efforts along the Jepara coast.

Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at Unisnu Jepara, Munasir, stated that this activity is a concrete form of student contribution to maintaining environmental sustainability.

“This mangrove planting is not just a ceremonial activity, but a manifestation of the younger generation’s concern for preserving coastal areas so they remain sustainable and beneficial for the future,” he said, as released by jepara.go.id.

Meanwhile, the Village Head (Kades) of Ujungwatu, Sunantono, appreciated the collaboration between Unisnu and the village community.

“We thank Unisnu for partnering with Ujungwatu Village. We hope this activity will continue because it is very beneficial for the community, especially in protecting coastal areas from abrasion and strong sea winds,” he said.

During the activity, participants planted a total of 300 mangrove seedlings and 50 sea pine (cemara laut) seedlings. These plants are considered important as natural protectors of the beach from abrasion, supports for the coastal ecosystem, and habitats for various marine biota.

Through this activity, the BEM of the Faculty of Sharia and Law at Unisnu Jepara hopes that the spirit of environmental conservation will continue to grow and become a collective movement to protect Jepara’s coastal heritage for future generations.
